It is my great honor today to say a few words in regards to The HFC Bank Farebrother Challenge for 2015.

This also marks our second year as the major sponsor of the HFC Bank Farebrother Challenge and we are proud to bring you the most awaited Rugby challenge of our nation – the HFC Bank Farebrother Challenge.

I am extremely proud to announce that this year also marks the 74th year of the Farebrother Challenge and it is the FIRST Official Inter-district Rugby challenge in Fiji since it started in 1941 and has grown to be Fiji’s best loved Rugby challenge over the years.

The HFC Bank Farebrother Challenge this year will be contested by Fiji’s Top 9 rugby unions, Fiji’s Best provincial teams.

Last years Challenge was very competitive and what a thrill to watch!, especially for those of us who have gone down to Lawaqa Park. We must congratulate Nadroga for successfully defending the HFC Bank Farebrother Challenge trophy in 2014. It is also historical that Nadroga successfully defended the Farebrother 8 times.

Provincial challengers such as the Farebrother Challenge is a platform that inspires our youths to take up rugby as a sport and later this becomes a career path – as can be seen with the large numbers of our rugby players playing overseas, who are contributing to our economic growth through overseas remittents which is number 2 after Tourism as revenue earner for Fiji. We are very proud that some of the players who contested in the Farebrother challenge last year, have been selected to represent FIJI at the Rugby World cup this year as announced by Coach McKee last Friday.

HFC Bank, amongst its consortium partners is honored to be contributing to realising the vision of Fiji Rugby Union, which is ‘To be the World Leaders in Rugby’.

I wish all the teams the very best for the 2015 HFC Bank Farebrother Challenge.
