The Honourable Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama officially launched on Thursday 20th February 2014 and was announce then that HFC will open its doors for commercial banking on 3rd March 14, the Bank opened its doors to the public for Commercial Banking Operations today marking a historic moment. Being 75% owned by FNPF and 25% owned by Unit Trust he was also proud to say that this was the people’s bank.
Officiating this momentous Bank Opening occasion this morning (3rd March) was the Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank Mr. Inia Naiyaga in the presence of HFC Board Chairman (Mr. Tom Ricketts), HFC Directors Mr. Sashi Singh, Madame Nazhat Shameem, Mr. Vilash Chand, CEO (Mr. Isikeli Tikoduadua), Management, Customers and staffs of HFC Bank.
Mr. Naiyaga mentioned that this was a proud moment for Fiji as the people now have a locally owned Bank, the people’s bank and congratulated the Chairman – Mr. Ricketts , Board of Directors for HFC Bank, CEO, Management and Staff on this historic occasion for our Nation. We are indeed proud of having our own Local Bank and wished HFC well in their journey as a Commercial Bank. The Deputy Governor together with Mr. Tom Ricketts then cut the HFC Bank cake before cutting the ribbon to officially open HFC Bank door to customers. There was also a simultaneous opening to all the six HFC Bank branches located around Fiji by the Local Administrators of each of the Cities and town.

Customer Mr. Andrew Houng Lee while opening his account with HFC also commended the staff member for the efficient service. He mentioned that he was indeed proud to be associated with HFC and HFC’s brand as his grandfather sailed from China to Fiji braving the waters and with HFC Brand mirroring the “Dura” and the “Sail” was very special to him.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors Mr. Tom Rickets was the first to open a Senior Drua Account while Mr. Aisake Taito (CEO FNPF) was the first to open a Viti Drua Premium account.
Customers flanked in on the first day to open the accounts while many came in and called in to enquire on the requirements to open their accounts with us.
